I'm pretty worried about this right now.. My girlfriends brother was down there and there's no word from him yet.
Anyone else know someone that's currently down there?

I heard about it, I don't know anyone there. But my thoughts with the victims and hopefully your girls brother is fine.

That's so terrible. Three guys walk in and over forty dead or wounded? Terrible.

Shows what war can do to some people. The main man they have accused, was just about to be shipped off to Afghanistan.

From what investigators know this was a not PTSD induced case and believe that the the shooter was an Islamic terrorist possibly part of a plan to infiltrate the army. the Army should stay as alert as possible to shoot down any plans to do so as soon as possible.

Not to me... It's the largest active military installation in the world...
One of my best friends is down there. I still haven't heard from him. I'm sure he's fine. But still. Scary.

i moved from there six years ago, and still have friends down there, my dad knew one of the people who was shot but only injured thank god. horrible thing to do, the army community is a tight knit family, and something like this sends chills down everyone who's a part of it's spine. may everyones thoughts and prayers be with those affected.

I would like to see where you got your information from before we jump to terrorism.
My heart goes out to the families of all those involved.

It was just a crazy guy who shot up a military base because he cracked, nothing more. I highly doubt the guy would spend 6 years in a military medical residency just so he could walk into a processing center and shoot people.

dalaxmandef and HisDudeness are right.
It is hard to believe (although not impossible) that a person would go or even be able to go through all the trouble that he did for so long just to pull of a base shooting. He was a Major, that takes a decent amount of time, especially for someone who hasn't seen combat.
Jumping to conclusions that he was a terrorist at this stage so close to the shooting is way to premature. Until an investigation is long underway it is all speculation. Also, IMO his actions weren't of the normal protocol of terrorist plots/attacks, it sounds more like he just lost it due to the fact he was going to be deployed to Iraq. And the fact that the shooting occurred in the building that readies soldiers for deployment makes even more sense.
My heart and prayers go out to all of the victims, it is a very sad day.

As does making statements like "that's what war does to people," when he'd never been in a war.

Good News, her brother's fine. But as everyone else said, my heart and thoughts go out to those soldiers, and the family of them who have been affected.

I'm quoting these for emphasis. EVERYONE, this is a tragic events, if you wish to talk about them please do so without jumping to conclusions or speculation ie don't make a statement that cannot be backed up by a new source and DO NOT use this thread as an inroad for a political discussion based on the events. Lastly, behave, again this is a tragedy threat may hit home for some and may not for others but non one needs to be fighting over the events because of speculation.
To re-iterate on what's bolded do not go posting anything speculative if you aren't going to provide a link to factual evidence from a reliable source. Posts speculating on what may have gone down & arguing over what may have happened will be removed and the thread will be closed.

If your read what I said, I said this is what (the fear or thought) of War could do to people. He was going to be shipped out within the week.

How many soldiers get anxious about going to war? I'm going to say that most, if not all, do. How many pull horrendous crap like this guy did? One, just him. To cite shipping out as the primary reason for what he did is ludicrous. This guy was simply off his rocker, four cans short of a six pack, playing with a deck of only twelve cards, whatever you want to call it. Sure, being shipped out could have influenced the timing of the event, but it wasn't even close to being THE reason that this happened.
PS--If you don't want to ever get deployed, don't sign up for the military. Seems like common sense to me.
