This months IL mag showed a way to execute the full man ride with a middi on an attackman and a pole covering a middi while the goalie took the deepest attackman. I was wondering what you guys thought about this? My guess is it would be real hard to execute but the reward would probably be worth it.

this would be amazing if it could work 100% of the time. what happens if all the attack men are at the restraining line? therefore the goalie is a the restraining line. thats not good

This is not a ride that I would use all of the time. Generally it would be used if you're down a goal and need to make sure you get the ball back before the end of the game. My team called it "Red Dog" I think which was basically a lock off of all the players with our best defender on the ball carrier stepping inbounds.

The problem with this ride is that one fast/craft midfielder destroys it, or one misstep by a defender lets his guy get through. If you can get your players to lock-off effectively and you have confidence in your best defenseman than it can be useful but it has to be done to perfection.

One thing to not about the lock-off ride, if the opposing team figures it out they will switch and middie and defender at the midfield line. That usually creates enough confusion that someone gets free so your players need to remember to follow their man over the midline.

It is definitely a risk/reward situation. We only run it once or twice per game and only when the defense is inbounding from the end line. The idea is for the defender with the ball at the start to see no one to throw to. If they break the ride it's going to happen early so the goalie has plenty of time to get back to goal. Surprise is part of what makes it work so we change the name of it all the time.

As with any high risk situation, the circumstances have to be right. If you have an athletic team that can ride effectively or are playing a team with poor passing skill, this can be a very effective ride. However, as previously stated, it only takes one good dodge by a speedy middie to break. Personally, I feel that deception is the best way to pull off the full field ride. Again, it requires some athleticism by your team, but if you can "mask" the fact that you are going to full press and dictate a long pole clearing against a LSM, then I think the odds of pulling it off are in your favor.
